Each summer, Artspace’s Summer Artist-in-Residence program provides an established artist with a brief studio opportunity to work on a project of his or her choosing. Artists are selected from a competitive national pool of applicants. Throughout the residency, artists interact with the public in an effort to fulfill Artspace’s mission of making the creative process accessible. In addition to working in an open-studio environment, a Meet the Artist evening is organized along with a public slide lecture. The Summer Artist-in-Residence also teaches two classes or workshops (one for youths and one for adults) in conjunction with Artspace’s Summer Arts Program. Following the residency, in Gallery one, the resident presents an exhibition that is a culmination of the artist’s studio work during the summer.

This summer join us in celebrating the past nine years of the Summer Artist-in-Residence Program. Reconsidered features the work of Grimanesa Amorós, Laura Berman, Eileen Doktorski, Ann Marie Kennedy, IlaSahai Prouty, Carrie Scanga, Anthony Ulinski, and Sherri Wood.
